Typing moves
- Chess notation: e4, Nf3, Bxc6, O-O, e8=Q. Capital letters are optional.
- From and to squares: e2 e4, or g1 to f3.
- Words: knight to f3, pawn takes d5, castle kingside, castle queenside.
Commands you can type

- moves from g1, or legal moves

Keys on the board
- Arrow keys move between squares. Home and End go to the start and end of a rank.
- Enter or Space picks up a piece or drops it.
- Escape puts the piece back.
- Question mark: what attacks this square. M: where this piece can go.
- P: my pieces. O: their pieces. L: last move. T: whose turn.
- Slash jumps to the move box.
Sounds
- A soft drop: a move. A glassy hit: a capture. A bong: check.
- A rising chime: it's your turn.
